the sweet smell of basil mingled with the pungent aroma of fish paste.
One student dipped chicken tenders into a spicy Thai curry mixture, while another rolled thick tuna steaks in

Tarpon Springs, Florida - Picking a major is usually left for
students to decide in college, not in high school. As part of the

are required to participate in career development activities so
that by the time they're 9th graders they can pick a major.

There was little chatter among the budding Tarpon High chefs as they pulled together the three-course gourmet meal while

others responded in unison. The students' movement Tuesday afternoon at Tarpon Springs High's.....

Students at Jacobson Culinary Arts
Academy in Tarpon Springs are heading to
a national competition.
"We'll be judged on taste, presentation,
cleanliness of our station, the way we're
able to work together," said team captain
Gerry Sizemore.
An entire gourmet meal must be prepared
against the clock. The team has 30 minutes
to demonstrate knife skills, 30 minutes to
break down a chicken and one hour to
prepare and present their meal.
"We try to be organized in the (frenzy), but
it does get a little crazy at the end,"
Sizemore said.
